Typos… mistakes… boo-boos – whatever you call them, we don’t want them ever, right?
We all make them, and at times, they may seem rather inconsequential. And maybe they are – if they’re in personal emails or instant messages.
But in your copywriting and in all of your virtual assistant business communications, it’s a whole other issue. These “minor” errors can cost you big time.
Besides making you look unprofessional, typos may hurt you in ways you may not have considered. There are varying degrees of typo severity.
For example, if you have a word misspelled on your website, your visitors may just think you don’t know the right spelling (not good!) or that you aren’t thorough and precise (even worse, especially for a Virtual Assistant!).
The good news on web pages and other Internet-based writing is that these typos are usually fairly easy to fix. Print is a whole other issue – re-printing costs are not much fun. I’ve seen flyers, instruction manuals, brochures and even business cards with all sorts of inexcusable errors – errors that cost money, sometimes a lot of money. Take-home messages? Imagine sending a typo home with a potential client.
Always proofread. Don’t assume. Don’t rush. Always err on the side of caution.
